Hindu Gods and Goddesses

Hindus are polytheistic, which means that they believe in many gods. However, the three most major gods are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The even more supreme of these is Brahma, who is regarded as the creator. Vishnu is the preserver, while Shiva is the destroyer. Yet, Brahma isn’t as important or as worshipped or valued as Vishnu or Shiva; due to becoming obsessed with his daughter, Saraswati.
Vishnu has ten incarnations, or also known as avatars. Ancient Hindu texts say that Vishnu has come down to Earth many times, in order to get rid of the evil and replace it with righteousness. The ten avatars of Vishnu are Parasu Rama, Kalki, Shakyamuni, Krishna, Rama Chandra, Mastya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, and Vamana.
Rama is the perfect avatar of Vishnu. He is a symbol of chivalry and virtue. Krishna is the most popular avatar. Krishna has influenced the Hindu’s life and culture, and all aspects of the Indian’s traditional beliefs.
There are many more gods along with the three supreme ones. One of the most known gods is Ganesha, an elephant-like being. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is believed to be the lord of success and destroyer of evils. Hanuman is an avatar of Shiva, and is worshiped as a symbol of strength, perseverance, and devotion.
Lakshmi is the goddess of prosperity and wealth. She is depicted as a beautiful woman with four hands, and a golden complexion. Durga is the mother goddess and represents the powers of the gods. She is the destroyer of evil and the protector of righteousness. Kali is a fearful form of the goddess, Durga. Saraswati is the goddess of learning, knowledge, wisdom, art and music, and is the daughter of Brahma.
These aren’t all of the Hindu gods; these are just some of the most popular and known of them. Below is a list of the gods and goddesses to summarize up the ones in this blog.
